Last summer, Hoopla entered its 10th year as Oregon's largest and most prestigious 3-on-3 Street Basketball
Tournament. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, Hoopla established a Hall of Fame, honoring the founders of the event,
longtime sponsors, loyal volunteers, and accomplished participants.
This inaugural class of 12 has helped set the foundation for what is one of the most unique and special events you will
find anywhere. The Hall of Fame is named after and dedicated to one of the original sponsors and longtime Hoopla supporter,
Jim Blackman.
Jim (Bop to many!) meant so many things to this event. His company, Kilgore-Blackman Building Materials, has been a
sponsor since day one of the event and in the first 8 years of the tournament, Jim never missed one day of competition. He
would love to sit and watch with pride how the streets in front of the Capitol Building would, literally within hours,
be transformed from a main thoroughfare to a small town dedicated to the game of basketball.
Unfortunately, Jim passed away last summer (2007), the day after we finished our 9th Annual Hoopla and will not be here to
celebrate what he helped create. It is with great pride and joy that the Hoopla Hall of Fame and Exhibit will stand here
in his honor and serve as a small memory of him. We miss you Bop!
Congratulations to this years inductees! You each have truly made a difference in our
community and the contributions that you each continue to make will be felt by thousands of people for years and years to
come. Simply put... thank you.
